-          HOW TO WRITE PARAGRAPH WITH ADEQUATE AND INADEQUATE COHESION?

To make a good paragraph, we should include at least into three components. They are:

·         Topic Sentence                 : A main sentence in a descriptive text, usually built into three parts, they are: Complete sentence, most general, controlling idea.

·         Supporting Sentence        : The sentence which support the main sentence or topic sentences in the descriptive text.

·         Concluding Sentence       : Concluding sentence is a sentence which conclude all of the main idea in each paragraph in the descriptive text, usually divide into four: Summary, Logical Conclusion, Suggestion (Recommendation), and Prediction.

A good paragraph is a paragraph which including Coherence and Cohesion. Among topic sentence, supporting sentence and concluding sentence should have relationship each other.

-          DEFINITION OF COHESION

Cohesion means paragraph that unity among topic sentece, supporting sentence, and concluding sentence. It purpose to make the reader easy to understand.

-          THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COHERENCE AND COHESION

Coherence means logical and consistent. It is mean paragraph that has a good relationship between topic sentence, supporting sentence, and concluding sentence. It purpose to make the reader easy to understand. Cohesion means paragraph that unity between topic sentence, supporting sentence, and concluding sentence. The differences between coherence and cohesion is Coherence means every paragraph related each other but Cohesion means in every paragraph forming a united whole as one unit of paragraph. The purpose of them are same , to make the reader understand what the writer talking about.

-          THE EXAMPLE OF PARAGRAPH WITH ADEQUATE AND INADEQUATE COHESION.

THIS IS ME

In this nice opportunity I am going to describe myself. It has purpose to inform the people who want to know me more. Hopefully after this I will get many new friends because they read this paragraph.

My name is Tika Fatmawati. Everybody call me Tika. I don’t know the meaning of my name. Something that I know until today is my parents like this name, so that it becomes my name. I am twenty one years old. I am undergraduate student of Muhammadiyah university of Metro fourth semester in English department.

            Physically I’m fat girl. My weight is 51 kilograms and my height is 150 meters. I have around face with flat nose. My skin is creamy yellow and my hair is curly.  Most of people said that I look like my mother. They said most of part our body are similar. It is like our lips, eyes, and skin. Our body is also similar. I have thick short body and my mother too. Our personality is almost same. The important thing of us is: we are beautiful women. I live in a beautiful village in Kalianda, shouth Lampung. But I stay in boarding house in Metro city to continue my study at university. I’m Javanese and I have some hobbies, they are: cooking, reading and watching movie. I like cooking because I like eating. On other hand, hopefully I can be a good wife and good mother in the future. Reading makes me beautiful because it makes increase my knowledge. One of the characteristic of beautiful girl is have much knowledge. Beautiful is not only about physical but also mind. I believe that most of people like watching movie, so do I. because it can entertain us and refresh our mind from the problem of our life, for the examples are: the assignments from the school, don’t have money any more, and broken heart. I also like adventure very much, because I will get many new experience. There are many activities that I can do in free time. It’s like tidy my bad room, washing the cloths, cooking, doing my assignments, reading and the last is watching movie.

(The Characteristic Of Narrative, Descriptive, And Expository Text)

1.      Narrative Text

a.       Definition Of Narrative Text

Narrative Text is text which retell stories in the past events. Narrative text focus in some specific participant that have several structural features which making different from other genre. Narrative text has social function to entertain the readers.

            Kind of Narrative Text : Fable, Myths, Legend, Fairy Tale, etc.

b.      Generic Structure

-  Orientation

Introducing the participant and informing the time and the place. It also introduce some characters involved in this genre.

-  Complication

Describing the rising crises which the participants have to do with or among participants relationship in a process of social interaction.

-  Resolution

Showing the way of participant of solve the crises, better or worse. The end can be open ended or close ended. Open ended is a conclusion that depends in the perception of the readers.

-  Coda

Coda which summarizes the point of the story and mral message we may get.

2.      Descriptive Text

a.       Definition

            Descriptive Text is a text that explains something from the objects being described or located which is called spatial organization. In short, In descriptive text you must make the location of the object being described very clear.

b.      Generic Structure

·         Supporting Sentence         : The sentence which support the main sentence or topic sentences in the descriptive text.

2.      Using three parameter of senses : Visual, auditory, and smell.

3.      Using spatial order in which preposition precedes the verb and the subject.

4.      Using multiple tense based on the time : Past, Present and Future.

a.       Definition

A text that explain or analyzes a topic is an topic it includes: Information, explanation, fact, and illustration. Expository paragraph can be divided into several model of writing : Such as process Paragraph, and procedure paragraph.
